NEWS: Zibili Evelyn, Winner Of Nigerian Idol 2014

23-year old Zibili Evelyn Ibhade, who emerged winner of this year’s edition of Nigerian Idol talent hunt show, has described her victory as one that came as a surprise to many, especially as she had fewer votes from the public, a week to the grand finale.

Evelle defeated her closest rival Odugbemi Idowu Sarah, a.k.a Eye-D, who many tipped for the prize, during a spectacular grand finale held last weekend in Lagos.

By this victory, Evelle became the proud owner of a Hyundai Four Wheel Drive Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), in addition to N7.5 million, an Android tablet phone, an ipod and a recording deal with Universal Music Group.

Speaking shortly after announcing her as the winner, Evelle, amidst tears, dedicated the award to her mother, who is currently in hospital, having been involved in an auto crash two weeks ago on her way to Lagos to witness her daughter’s performance.

God first, then, my mum; it has to be my mum. I know this will make her feel much better than she is feeling right now. My victory came as a surprise to many, especially because I had fewer votes a week to the grand finale from the public compared to the number of votes received by Eye-D.

To actually get more people to vote for me, I went into my closet and prayed and said to God: I don’t know how this is going to happen; I am going to give it my best shot and I want you to help me in such a way that even those who have been voting for my opponent will vote for me this time. That was my prayer, and I am sure that was what happened,” she added.

Evelle said she has long dreamed of having a car to mark her birthday and now, God has given her one. She felt on top of the world as she was handed the dummy cheque and car keys by the Director of Consumer Segment, Etisalat Nigeria, Oluwole Rawa, at the Dreams Studios, Bamako, Ogba, venue of the show. Evelle is a part-time singer at the Eko Hotel and Radisson Blu Hotels!

CONGRATULATIONS EVELLE!!!

NEWS: Skales, Timaya, K-Solo, Sunny Nneji, African China & Others Mourn Kefee's Death

Since the news broke yesterday morning, her colleagues, friends and well-wishers have continued to pour out their hearts on the loss of one of their own, who has been an inspiration to many young gospel artistes in the country.

One of her colleagues, Skales could not hide his sorrow as he declared: “I still don’t understand why such things happen to good people. She was too good to me. I am grateful for all she did for me. God knows best. May her soul rest in peace.”

Timaya described Kefee as a “friend, a sister, a colleague and a strong woman, “ adding “ Working with her on that “Kokoroko” song was a blessing. We will miss her so much.”

Lami Philips said, “I don’t understand why this has to happen. May God keep grant her eternal rest, and comfort those she left behind.”

K-Solo expressed his grief thus; Kefee was a wonderful singer. I produced her Kokoroko song. I will miss her so much. Whenever she sings, the vocal just drops and she can’t even phantom how great her voice dexterity was. I can’t hold back these tears. I used to call her Irekef.”

According to Sunny Nneji, her death is painful. “This is a huge loss in the music industry. For a young and vibrant artiste like Kefee to die just like that is really painful. In fact, I am still in a shock.

For African China, “Honestly, it’s a sad one because she was more than a friend to me. I could remember the last time I visited her restaurant located in Maryland, Lagos, to eat starch and banga soup.

After having a good meal, I posed for shots with her. I was surprised to hear that she is dead. We even talked about doing collaboration soon. It’s really sad because I had a mission yet to be accomplished with her.”

In his own reaction, Alariwo of Africa said, “It’s really shocking, disappointing and devastating.
When I heard about Kefee’s death this morning (yesterday), I was in a shock for about four hours. This is because it is a big blow to the industry for a lively and vibrant singer like Kefee to be lost to death.”

Also, reacting to Kefee’s death via Instagram, Sasha P said, “Now you are looking at heaven…..Teach us Lord to number our days. Rest In Peace Kefee, God knows best.”

NEWS: Dutch Football Player, Arjen Robben Says "I'm So Proud Of My Team Mates"

Had the sun still been in the sky when the final whistle blew on the Netherlands’ 5-1 mauling of reigning world champions Spain, it would surely have been outshone by Arjen Robben. The 30-year-old was in electrifying form and capped his first outing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ with a brace to help get coach Louis van Gaal’s young Dutch team off to the perfect start.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to have scored those goals,” Robben told FIFA.com afterwards, although he was eager to share credit for the surprising victory with his colleagues: “I have to say, I’m just so proud of my team. It’s always nice to score a couple of goals but I’m far prouder of the side. I’m proud of our performance because that’s what really matters.”

It was the second time that Robben had made amends for previous shortcomings on the international stage. After missing a penalty in the 2012 UEFA Champions League final that Bayern lost on home turf, it was Robben who hit the winner a year later in the continental decider against Borussia Dortmund.

And this latest performance against La Furia Roja goes some way to making up for his miss when one-on-one with Casillas in the South Africa 2010 Final, even if the stakes were rather different.

“You can’t compare this game with that one from four years ago,” Robben said. “Back then it was a Final and today it was a group match. We played against the toughest opponents and, in pure footballing terms, the best team in the world. We matched them well and took our chances.”

After recording the perfect start to their World Cup campaign, the objective for the Netherlands is to build on that display in their second fixture. “We need to stay focused and just keep doing what we have been doing,” he said, smiling as he boarded the team bus. “Tomorrow we start again.”

NEWS: Jim Keays, Frontman Of Australian Rock Group, "The Master's Apprentices" Dies Aged 67

Jim Keays, frontman of celebrated Australian rock group the Master's Apprentices, has died at the age of 67 after a long battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 9, 1946 in Glasgow, Scotland, Keays performed on a raft of domestic hits from the band’s inception as a pop group 1965 through to its split in 1972, now a fully-formed rock ‘n’ roll group.

During that stretch, the group spun the singles “Undecided", "Living in a Child's Dream", "5:10 Man", "Think About Tomorrow Today", "Turn Up Your Radio" and "Because I Love You," and they'd earned the reputation as one of the country’s best live rock bands.

Keays' group was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame back in 1998 alongside the Angels, whose frontman Doc Neeson died earlier this month. The year after Hall of Fame induction, Keays published his memoirs, “His Master's Voice: The Master's Apprentices: The Bad Boys of Sixties Rock 'n' Roll.”

The Master’s Apprentices’ debut eponymously-titled album came in at No. 35 in the 2010 publication, “The 100 Best Australian Albums”. Deniz Tek, the American-born frontman of Australian alternative rock outfit Radio Birdman, recalls listening to “The Master’s Apprentices” as a young teen. “The album was a revelation. I like the originals best, but the album was so eclectic,” he writes in “The 100 Best Australian Albums”. “They seemed to be saying, ‘Check it out. We can play anything.’”

Keays is reported to have passed away peacefully on Friday morning from pneumonia due to complications from his seven-year battle with multiple myeloma, a bone marrow cancer. He’d been on life support since Monday.

In a statement issued by his friend Dianna O’Neill, Keays is said to have been putting the finishing touches to his latest album, which was due in August. He’d continued to tour in recent years as a solo artist and with Cotton Keays and Morris, alongside Darryl Cotton and Russell Morris.

Famed artist manager and industry entrepreneur Glenn Wheatley paid his respects to his former bandmate. “I had the pleasure of sharing some of the best years of my life with Jim Keays. I will always remember him as a consummate showman. Jim had an aura about him, you always knew he was in the room,” he says in a statement. “Always the Master, never the Apprentice. His presence will remain with me always. Do what you wanna do, be what you wanna be Jim. Vale my friend, you will be greatly missed”.

Keays is survived by his partner Kari, and his three children Holly, Bonnie and James!

RIP JIM KEAYS!!!

NEWS: NEA Jazz Master, Jimmy Scott Dies Aged 88

Jimmy Scott, the jazz star whose small stature, romantic phrasing and distinctly high voice helped make him one of the most unique vocal stylists of his era, died in his sleep on Thursday at his home in Las Vegas. The singer was 88.

His death was confirmed by his biographer, David Ritz, according to the Washington Post.

James Victor Scott came into this world on July 17, 1925, and considering the struggles that he faced in his professional and personal life, the empathy his unique soprano voice conveyed was impressive, generous, and even noble. Jimmy and his brother Kenny were just two of ten children born to Arthur Scott and his wife Justine in Cleveland, Ohio. As the two brothers were approaching puberty it was determined that they both suffered from a rare hormonal deficiency called Kallmann’s Syndrome, which caused them to experience a sustained state of (physical) pre-adolescence. It was this sad and unusual circumstance that contributed to Jimmy Scott’s high-pitched voice.

Scott transformed that voice into a marvellous musical instrument, one that was as expressive and as nuanced as any other in the history of jazz.  “Little” Jimmy Scott’s first taste of fame occurred in 1949 when he got a job singing with Lionel Hampton and His Orchestra but it wasn’t until January 1950 that Jimmy and the Hampton band recorded Scott’s one and only hit, “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool.”

Jimmy Scott began releasing records under his own name in the 1950s but in the decades that followed he was up and down, in and out, gone and back, and for a time, literally lost to the music business. A one-time contemporary of great talents like Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday, as well as more obscure musicians like Big Maybelle, he remained a jazz singer nonpareil across seven decades.

Scott’s many different “comebacks” over the years served as a testimonial to his bad luck and his endurance, as well as his consistency as a recording artist. He was once “rediscovered” singing at the funeral of his friend Doc Pomus, and was signed to Sire Records by Seymour Stein, making the 1992 recording, All The Way. Scott sang on the wonderfully poignant Lou Reed album, Magic and Loss and appeared on David Lynch’s cult program Twin Peaks, singing the song "Sycamore Tree," written by the show's creator. After Sire Records, Scott made several worthwhile albums on the Milestone jazz label until the early 2000s. In 2007, Jimmy Scott was named a NEA Jazz Master.

Although he lived in obscurity for decades, new generations repeatedly discovered the legend of Jimmy Scott -- everyone from Ray Charles to Marvin Gaye to David Byrne lauded him. In 2002 there was a documentary film produced entitled Jimmy Scott: If You Only Knew.  In David Ritz’s as-told-to biography, Faith In Time: The Life Of Jimmy Scott, the singer is contextualized alongside brilliant saxophonists Lester Young and Stan Getz, as well as legendary friends like Bird and Lady Day. Much like his talented peers, Little Jimmy Scott inhabited a world where the line between thought and expression dissolved night after night and year after year. There won’t be another like him again.

Scott moved from Cleveland to Las Vegas in 2007 for health reasons!

RIP JIMMY SCOTT!!!

NEWS: The Netherlands Trashes Spain With 5-1

Robin van Persie starred with a brace as the Netherlands gained revenge for their final defeat in South Africa by thrashing champions Spain 5-1 at the World Cup in Salvador on Friday.

Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben tore Spain apart in a stunning 5-1 dismantling of the defending champions in Salvador on Friday that sent shockwaves through the World Cup.

It was revenge for the Dutch who lost 1-0 to Spain in the World Cup final in Johannesburg four years ago.

The last time the reigning champions lost their opening match, France were humbled by Senegal in 2002, but never before had a title-holder been so comprehensively thrashed.

Manchester United forward Van Persie scored twice, including a brilliant lobbed, headed opener, set up another and cracked a stunning strike against the bar in a man-of-the-match performance from the Dutch captain.

Robben went some way to making up for spurning two glorious chances in the final in South Africa by punishing Spain with his speed and scoring a brace of his own.

Stefan de Vrij was another to get his name on the scoresheet after Xabi Alonso had opened the scoring for Spain, who suffered their worst defeat in more than half a century, with a highly contentious penalty after Diego Costa had slumped to the ground in the box despite no contact appearing to be made by De Vrij!

NEWS: Spice Girl Mel B As The Fourth 'X Factor' U.K Judge

Former Spice Girl Mel B has been named as the fourth judge for the 11th season of the "X Factor" U.K.

Mel B told the U.K. press she is "so excited" to be joining the show. She reportedly signed a deal worth $1.67  million (£1 million). The 39-year-old signer served as a guest judge on the show in 2012.

Simon Cowell said he was "thrilled" by the appointment, adding,"I thought she was fantastic as a guest judge a couple of years ago.

"She is feisty, opinionated and, I believe, will be a great mentor," he said.

"I've always thought honesty is the best policy when being a judge and that's what I'm going to bring more of this year," Mel B said of her approach to the role. "Whether it's spotting an incredible singer, giving someone a reality check or debating with Simon over who's got it wrong.

"Now I can't wait to get started and find some amazing talent," she added.

Cheryl Cole and Cowell announced in March that they would be coming back to the show as judges after a four-year hiatus. And earlier this month, Louis Walsh confirmed he was returning as a judge. Cole had said she would like a female talent to hold down the fourth judges seat.
