NEWS: Malala Yousafzai Says 'President Goodluck Jonathan Would Soon Meet With Parents And Guardians Of Abducted Chibok Girls'

An education activist, Malala Yousafzai, said on Monday President Goodluck Jonathan would soon meet with the parents and guardians of the abducted Chibok school girls in Borno.

Yousafzai told State House correspondents after her meeting with the President in the Presidential Villa, Abuja that the President also promised that the abducted girls would soon be released alive by their captors.

According to her, the parents of the affected girls, whom she met on Sunday, said they wanted to meet with the President to share their stories with him.

“They were asking if it is possible they meet the president because, at this time they need people’s support, they need their President’s support.

“So, I asked the President that is it possible for him to go and see the parents, to see these girls, to encourage them and to tell them that yes, their daughters will return home

“The President did promise me and he said, he will meet the parents of these girls.

“I’m hopeful that these two promises, the return of those girls under the abduction of Boko Haram and meeting the parents of those girls will be fulfilled and we will see it really soon,’’ she said

She called on the international community to support Nigeria in the ongoing fight against the menace of insurgency saying the country should not be left alone in tackling the problem.

According to Yousafzai, her ongoing agitation for the release of the kidnapped girls will continue until all the girls regain their freedom.

“I can’t stop this campaign until I see those girls return back to their families and continue their education. This is the position of the Malala Foundation.

“I am hopeful that the international community will also consider this very important and take serious action because if we think this country is far away in Africa and is not going to affect other countries, we are really wrong,’’ she said.

She also called on the Federal Government to increase its budgetary allocation to the education sector to address the challenges of those children that were out of school across the country.

Yousafzai, who celebrated her 17th birthday on Sunday, said she dedicated this year to her agitation for the release of the abducted school girls!

NEWS: Germany Earn $35 Million For Winning The World Cup

AFTER Germany defeated Argentina in extra time of the final of the World Cup, not only did they get to hoist an 18-carat trophy, but they also hauled off a cool $35 million.

It’s fitting that the largest prize in World Cup history was distributed in the most expensive World Cup in history. Spain, winner of the 2010 World Cup, received $30 million.

That money is the only thing Germany get to keep (except for bragging rights) since the expensive trophy stays with FIFA and teams are given a cheaper replica.

Argentina received $25 million as the runner-up, which is up from $24 million in 2010.

The Netherlands earned $20 million for finishing third and Brazil earned $18 million for fourth place.

Here’s a look at the prize money distribution for the 2014 FIFA World Cup:

Group Stage (16 eliminated teams): $8 million each  Round of 16 (eight losers): $9 million each

Quarterfinals (four losers): $14 million each

Fourth place: $18 million

Third place:: $20 million

Runner-up: $24 million

Winner: $35 million

NEWS: Argentine Football Legend Diego Maradona Says 'Lionel Messi Didn't Deserve The Golden Ball'

Argentine football legend Diego Maradona said compatriot Lionel Messi did not deserve to be named best player of the World Cup, arguing it should have gone to Colombia’s James Rodriguez.

“I’d give Lio the sky, but when it’s not deserved and it’s just marketers who want to make him win something he didn’t win, it’s unfair,” Maradona said Sunday after Argentina lost the World Cup final to Germany 1-0.

“Rodriguez was the best player of the World Cup,” said Maradona on his TV program “De Zurda,” which is broadcast by Venezuelan network Telesur and retransmitted in several Latin American countries.

The 23-year-old Rodriguez was the revelation of the World Cup and the top scorer with six goals.
Messi dazzled in the group stage with four goals, but failed to score in his last four games, including the final.

Maradona said Messi himself did not seem to feel he deserved the trophy.

“It looked like he didn’t want to take it,” he said.

But Maradona praised Argentina and said the match could have gone either way.

“I’m sad about Mario Goetze’s (game-winning) goal,” he said. “But we can’t forget that we took this World Cup step by step. If we had scored (Gonzalo) Higuain’s (disallowed) goal we would be partying. Germany were not dominant.”

Maradona, 53, was Messi’s childhood idol and is his rival for the title of greatest-ever Argentine footballer.

To many fans, the 27-year-old Barcelona striker still needs to add a World Cup win to his resume to match the greatness of Maradona, who led his team to the title in 1986!

NEWS: Brazil Press Say 'Brazil Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari Has To Be Sacked'

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has to be sacked the Brazilian media said on Sunday after the national team’s disastrous World Cup campaign ended in a “knock-out” and “new humiliation.”

O Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper’s headline lamented the “Melancholic Goodbye,” capturing the national mood after Brazil lost 3-0 to the Netherlands in Saturday’s third-place playoff.

The newspaper’s World Cup section decried the “new humiliation” just days after the 7-1 semi-final defeat against Germany, Brazil’s worst loss in its 100-year footballing history.

With the headline “Knockout,” Folha de Sao Paulo’s Cup page ran a picture of Brazil defender David Luiz lying on the pitch with his hands around his head.

“Considered favorites for the title by Felipao (Scolari), the team finish fourth after losing again to a first-rate rival; the coach should not be kept at the helm,” Folha said.

Several newspapers also highlighted the fact that goalkeeper Julio Cesar had conceded 18 goals in 12 games over two World Cups — he had however been hailed as a hero only a fortnight ago for saving Brazil in the last 16 penalty shootout win over Chile.

Despite the team’s disastrous campaign, Brazil’s football confederation (CBF) have yet to decide on 65-year-old Scolari’s future.

After Saturday’s game, Scolari, who coached the 2002 World Cup-winning team, said it was up to CBF president Jose Maria Marinto to decide whether he stays on.

O Dia newspaper was clear about what it wants: “Felipao Out.”

The newspaper’s sports section asked “Coach? What Coach?” next to a picture of Brazil’s injured star Neymar whispering instructions to captain Thiago Silva during the game.

“Yesterday the players on the substitutes bench appeared to be the ones guiding the team,” the daily said.

The sports daily Lance said CBF’s president and number two, Marco Polo Del Nero, should both go too.

Lance columnist Luiz Fernando Gomes concluded: “Out Marin! Out Del Nero!”
