NEWS: President Goodluck Jonathan Pays Condolence Visit To Families Of Late Arisekola Alao
President Goodluck Jonathan has joined other thousands of Nigeria who have been paying condolence visit to the families of late Alhaji Azeez Arisekola, who died last Wednesday in London.
President Jonathan described the death of the late philanthropist as a monumental loss to the nation.
The president was represented by his deputy, Namadi Sambo, who was ushered into the residence of the deceased by Senator Hosea Agboola, Chief Olabode George, Mr. Oba Otudeko, Prince Ajibola Afonja, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi and some children of the deceased, expressed President Jonathan’s condolence message to the Oyo State Government.
Ajimobi, who could not hide his emotion on the loss of Arisekola said 'people who knew me know that I hardly cry in public. But Aare is worth crying for, look at his house, look at his children, is there anybody here that Aare has not touched his life?'

NEWS: The Super Eagles Been Promised 10 Million Naira Reward Per Goal Against Argentina
The Super Eagles have been promised a massive N10 million handsome reward for any goal scored against Argentina in their last Group F qualifying match Wednesday.
The Eagles with four points look good to move into the second round if they hold the Argentines to a draw. But, if the Stephen Keshi-led team beat Argentina, they would top their group with Argentina finishing second.
And to encourage the team to dig into their arsenal and score more goals, there are Nigerians here who are flashing credit cards and have promised to open their vaults to reward the Eagles.
Board member and chairman of Media Committee of NFF, Emeka Inyamah confirmed Monday that a Nigerian has promised to pay N10 million for each goal.
Inyamah said that the promise has nothing to do with the S10,000 dollars winning bonus for each player. “All financial agreements with the team have been met by the NFF. Their other monies are ready. We are fully prepared to back them to go all the way”, he said.

NEWS: American Pop Icon, Lionel Richie Celebrates His 65th Birthday With Kid Rock At A Concert Near Detroit
Lionel Richie turned 65 in style on Friday night (June 20), with Kid Rock in the flesh and a bunch of his other friends via video.
The veteran pop icon had just finished the main portion of his set at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in the Detroit suburb of Independence Township when crew and band members kept him on stage rather than going off for the encore.
A succession of tribute videos featured Barbra Streisand thanking Richie for being part of an upcoming duets album she`s recording; Jackie Chan and John Cusack singing "Happy Birthday" to Richie; Jimmy Buffett, who also sang; and particularly eloquent sentiments from Quincy Jones and Sidney Poitier. The segment also included tributes from Piers Morgan, Tim McGraw, Lenny Kravitz, Luke Bryan, Enrique Iglesias, Marc Anthony, and Richie's daughters Nicole and Sofia.
Kid Rock then strode on stage escorting a large, white-frosted sheet cake and singing Stevie Wonder's 1981 single "Happy Birthday" before embracing an obviously gobsmacked Richie.
"I love this!" proclaimed Richie, who had reminded the crowd at least 20 times during the show that it was his birthday. "I cannot believe this. This is beyond!"
He then asked Kid Rock, "What are you doing here?" to which the man also known as Bob Ritchie (no relation) quipped, "I can't believe you didn't call and invite me to the show, motherf***er."
Richie and Kid Rock then told the crowd about a dinner at Rock's home in California where the two men tried to one-up each other -- Richie showing off a photo of a French arts honor he had recently received, which prompted Rock to pull out an award he was given by the NAACP.
Richie, whose All The Hits All Night Long tour runs through Aug. 2, finished the night with his regular encore, "We Are the World."

Popupar Nigeria Rapper, Ice Prince has been officially nominated among the artistes to perform at the 2014 BET Awards happening on the 29th of June live at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
It will be recalled that, Ice Prince, who had been nominated twice for the BET Best International act Africa, eventually won the award last year.
Meanwhile Tiwa Savage, South African Afro-pop duo Mafikizolo and Ghanaian hip hop artist Sarkodie will perform as part of the “Music Around the Globe” presentation on Saturday 28 June.
All three artists were nominated in the BET Awards ‘Best International Act: Africa’ category. This is the first time international acts have performed as part of the BET Experience at L.A. LIVE since the introduction of international BET Award categories. Big congrats to all of them.

NEWS: Cobhams Asuquo & The Gift Of Blindness
“It’s assumed there are many things you can’t do because you’re blind. And so, for me I had to prove that there are many things I can do because I’m blind, and that there are many things I have done because I’m blind,”- Cobhams Asuquo
Leading Nigerian music producer and songwriter, Cobhams Asuquo, who was born blind, is calling on all who care to listen to become blind. On a number of occasions, he has spoken about the advantages of blindness and he does not hesitate to encourage others to embrace blindness. In 2012, while talking at TEDxEuston, an event that brings people together to share their experiences, he spoke on the lessons he has learnt from being blind. “I believe strongly that one of the strong elements that have fuelled my very strong sense of imagination and my ability to dream is the gift of blindness,” he said at the event.
In the talk, which he titled “The Gift of Blindness,” Cobhams mentioned three lessons that blindness has taught him:
1. Do not excuse failure for any reason on any account.
2. Trust, even when there’s no reason to.
3. Be blind to be focused.
He related different stories to drive home his message during his inspirational speech which was well received by the audience and which was intermittently punctuated by their applause. Cobhams’ third lesson, ‘Be blind to be focused,’ is the focus of this write-up. “Sight sometimes is a distraction,” he says but he quickly adds, “Now don’t get me wrong, sight is a precious gift. But on your way to your destination, what you see can also be a big distraction from your goal. So, I have learnt that you have to be blind in order to be focused. Focus is blindness in a sense…” There is a profound truth in this statement. We all have goals and aspirations but many a time, we come across some other things that cause our focus to shift. And it can be so distressing when, later in life, we realise what we could have achieved if we had not allowed ourselves to be distracted. This is why Cobhams’ message that we should be blind to be focused is apt.
Truth be told, focusing is not an easy thing to do. It is a habit that must be learnt until it becomes a second nature. I must confess that personally, I am still struggling to learn how to focus on the most important things to me, especially as they relate to my aspirations. There are distractions in our world today, with the Internet, television, mobile phones and other electronic devices that are being introduced to the market every day.
What I have learned is that focusing on one thing and doing well in it will open other doors for you. There is a halo effect that comes with being focused. Focus makes you a master in whatever you do and this makes people to admire and respect you. Focus defines you. That is why if I mention Warren Buffet, what comes to mind is investing. If I mention Donald Trump, you will start thinking about real estate and if I mention Pastor E. A. Adeboye or Bishop David Oyedepo, preaching comes to mind. Focus helps you to be clear about what you intend to achieve.
If you can’t maintain your focus, you won’t achieve your goal, unless it’s such an easy goal that it would have happened anyway.
Cobhams Asuquo, who has nurtured many singers in Nigeria, is thus right in encouraging us to become blind. You will agree with me that not everyone has mastered the art of focusing. Thus the blindness that comes with being focused is indeed a gift not everyone possesses but which we should strive to have. So are you ready to become blind?!

NEWS: Oyo State Announces 7 Days Of Mourning For Arisekola Alao
The Oyo State Government has declared seven days of mourning following the death of Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola-Alao in the UK on Wednesday.
Dr Festus Adedayo, the Senior Special Adviser on Media to Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, made the disclosure late night on Wednesday in Ibadan.
He said “the Oyo State Government has declared seven days mourning for the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola-Alao.
“The state government has also declared Friday, June 20, 2014 a public holiday, as mark of respect for the spirit of the departed soul.’’
Gov. Ajimobi had earlier on Wednesday visited the Ibadan home of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the state government had sent a special delegation comprising the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaj Monsurat Sunmonu, the Secretary to the State Government, Olalekan Alli and two other members of the Executive to London.
The delegation was to accompany the remains of Arisekola-Alao to Nigeria!
